ORDIT stands for The Official Register of Driving Instructor Trainers
and is administered by the Driving Standards Agency. It isn’t mandatory
yet, but when registration is achieved, it shows that the establishment
and its trainers have reached the required quality standard.
See below a copy of John Pierrepont’s last ORDIT assessment report.
At the time this assessment was carried out, Grade 6 was the highest
grade attainable. John achieved this grade in each and every one of the
14 sections that were assessed.
ADI Check Test Grading
Every ADI must undergo periodic tests conducted by the DSA to assess
their competence and ability to instruct and are graded accordingly.
These grades range from 1 – 6. Grades 3 and below are substandard,
and the top grade 6 is only achieved by 7% of the UK’s ADI’s.
John Pierrepont has achieved Grade 6 on every check test he has taken
since 1981.

The DSA’s definition of a grade 6 is:
The Instructor’s overall performance is to a very high standard
with no significant instructional weaknesses.
A concise and accurate re-cap on the previous lesson was given with
realistic, attainable objectives set for the current lesson. There was
dialogue, with pupil involvement.
The ADI consistently demonstrated the ability to vary / select the most
appropriate instructional techniques to suit the needs, aptitude and
ability of the pupil.
He or she was quick to recognise and address all relevant driving faults
and provided thoroughly sound analysis. Prompt and appropriate remedial
action took place.
An appropriate route was chosen for the pupil’s ability and experience
and the instructor took every opportunity to develop the pupils driving
skills and awareness using the problems presented on route.
An appropriate learning environment was created to positively encourage
the further development of the pupil’s skills and good driving
practice.
The lesson concluded with a concise re-cap, which was an accurate overview
of the lesson.
The strengths and weaknesses in the pupil’s performance were identified
and discussed constructively.
A professional attitude and approach to the pupil was shown throughout
the lesson
